Science is the knowledge we gain through observation and experience proved true by reliable empirical evidence. Science works on the principle of empiricism. It tries to define and explain everything in the world in a logical way. 

Besides being highly reliable in theory, science is not merely confined to theory. Science is primarily intended to understand the laws of nature. And after understanding them, using them to change the physical conditions of the world according to human needs. 

Science is practical in its nature. It aims to create a beneficial change for people at large. Since society is a collection of individuals, science is greatly necessary for the proper functioning of a society. Science affects society in multiple ways.
