Here is a detailed look at the new passing marks policy in Punjab Boards. Now the new exams policy 2026 will be enforced in 2026. Let's have a look at new exams policy 2026 for Punjab boards, Pakistan.

Punjab Boards new grading system 2026

All educational boards in Punjab will adopt this policy from the 2026 exams. This policy is currently valid for the 9th class and the 11th class students. The same grading system will continue in 2026 and onwards.

According to the new grading system. The passing marks have been changed. Your result card design and credentials will be changed. Read below what has changed in Punjab Boards Pakistan.

Passing Marks for 9th class 2026

The students will have to get 33% marks in every subject to pass the exam. Now we know that 1st year syllabus 2026 has been changed. The new syllabus has a new look. 

Now the students will get 33% marks to pass the exams. Here is how many marks will be required to pass the subject.

The same system will be followed for 1st year.

Passing Marks for 1st year

1st year passing marks will also be 33% for ev ery subject. The passing marks for every subject are the same as shown in the table above.

What else has changed under the new grading system?

The reporting of marks and achievements of the students has been changed. The board will mention your Grade Point Average (GPA) and Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) on your Result card. No actual marks will be mentioned.

How will your GPA and CGPA be calculated?

Your Report card will show only your GPA or CGPA. No obtained marks will be mentioned on the result card. So, the design of your report card will be changed. Here is how you GPA and CGPA will be calculated.

Important:

This grading system applies to 9th class and 11th class exams 2026. It does not apply to 10th class and 12th class exams in 2026.

ICS Subjects List 2026

For many students who do not know which subject will be studied in ICS, the list of all subjects of ICS is given below. 

There are two groups from which you can choose one of your own choices. Download 1st year new syllabus 2026 i PDF.

ICS Subjects for class 11 and class 12 2026

In class 11 the students decide which group or combination of ICS they want to choose. Then the same combination goes for class 12. 

There are some compulsory subjects and some elective subjects in class 11 and class 12.

Compulsory Subjects

Compulsory Subjects are the subjects that you have to study in your intermediate, no matter you do whether ICS, simple FA or FSc. These subjects include:
  • Urdu
  • English
  • Islamic Education
  • Tarjama tul Quran

So, the above-said subjects are compulsory and the students of 1st year in any field have to study these subjects. So, in ICS, you will be studying all these three subjects too.

Elective Subjects

As three subjects are compulsory, You have to choose the other three subjects yourself. These three subjects have been offered in combinations or groups. 

You can choose one of the following three groups in ICS:

Along with the four compulsory subjects, the student takes one of the following subjects groups:

Group 1

  • Computer Science
  • Physics
  • Mathematics

Group 2

  • Computer Science
  • Statistics
  • Mathematics

Group 3

  • Computer Science
  • Economics
  • Mathematics

So, now simply telling, in ICS, you have 5 subjects which you will study essentially. The one subjects are of your own choice; you can choose Physics or Statistics or Economics.

You will be studying a total of seven (7) subjects in ICS part 1 and the same number of subjects in Part 2. 

You can do some diploma courses after matric with science.

Elective Subjects

There are 7 subjects the students of 1st year arts study. The three subjects are compulsory and the three are elective. 

The private students can choose the elective subjects of their own choice. But regular students have to follow the instructions of their respective colleges while choosing the subjects. 

Every college will give you a prospectus and you will choose the subjects enlisted in that prospectus in the light of the given instructions.

FA part 2 Subjects List

The elective subjects in FA part 2 are the same as in FA part 1. So, the students will study the same elective subjects in FA part 2: part 2 of those subjects.

The compulsory subjects for FA part 2 include:

1. English
2. Urdu
3. Pakistan Studies
4. Tarjuma Tul Quran

2nd year FA part 2 elective subjects

The elective subjects for every student will be the same he/she had in class 11. 

Although you can study these subjects and choose the subjects you want there are limitations. 

You cannot choose freely. For example, there may be a paper on two subjects on the same day if you choose them freely. 

That is why boards only allow two languages, two social sciences, etc. 

You cannot have all three subjects in the same category as all three languages, all three social sciences, etc.

FSc subjects list for pre medical and pre engineering 2026

  Here is the complete details of all subjects for fsc part 1 and fsc part 2 for both pre-engineering and pre-medical students. I have given the complete subjects and book names for fsc students.


FSc Subjects list 2026

The first thing I want to clarify is that there are two major combinations for FSc. FSc stands for the Faculty of Science. 

This is a higher secondary level course in Pakistan which is taken after matric.

Here I would like to give you the details of the subjects of FSc in Pakistan. The details of subjects for both 1st year and 2nd year of the FSc course is given here.

FSc Subjects for class 11 (1st year) 2026

FSc Part 1 in Pakistan is also said 1st year. The subjects for both medical and engineering groups is given in detail here for 1st year students.

FSc pre medical subjects for 1st year 2026

The subjects in 1st year of FSc pre-medical are as follows:

1. English Compulsory

2. Urdu Compulsory

3. Islamic Education Compulsory

4. Tarjuma tul Quran compulsory

5. Biology

6. Physics

7. Chemistry

These are the subjects for FSc pre-medical students. The students have to take all these 6 subjects.


FSc pre Engineering subjects for 1st year 2026

The subjects in 1st year of FSc pre-engineering are as under:

1. English Compulsory

2. Urdu Compulsory

3. Islamic Education Compulsory

4. Tarjuma tul Quran compulsory

5. Mathematics

6. Physics

7. Chemistry

These are the subjects for FSc pre-engineering students. You have noticed that only one subject is different between pre-medical and pre-engineering groups. That is mathematics. 

The Students of FSc pre-medical study biology while the students of pre-engineering study mathematics instead of biology in FSc.

FSc Subjects for class 12 (2nd year) 2026


FSc Part 2 in Pakistan is also said 2nd year. The subjects for 2nd year students of FSc is given as:

You may have noticed that all the subjects which were present in 1st year are present in 2nd year except the Islamic Education which has been replaced by Pakistan Study. 

So, in 1st year, the students study Islamic Education as compulsory and in 2nd year, the students study Pakistan Study instead of Islamic Education.


FSc pre Engineering subjects for 2nd year

The subjects in 2nd year of FSc pre-engineering are as under:

1. English Compulsory

2. Urdu Compulsory

3. Pakistan Study Compulsory

4. Tarjuma tul Quran compulsory

5. Mathematics

6. Physics

7. Chemistry

So, you may have got an understanding that the subjects for FSc pre-medical and pre-engineering are the same except for the difference of one subject i.e. maths for pre-engineering and biology for pre-medical.

The students of FA, ICS, FSc and I.com are eager to learn about the total marks and marks schemes. 

Here is the marks system of various courses at the intermediate level and their total marks subjects wise given in front of each subject.


Class 11 Toal marks subjects wise 2026

There are four subject combinations in intermediate. You can do intermediate either in Arts, in science, in commerce or in computer science. 

1st year class 11 total marks 2026

Intermediate in Arts is called FA in Pakistan. Intermediate in science is called FSc. Intermediate in Computer science is called ICS and Intermediate in commerce subjects is called I.Com in Pakistan.

Total Marks of FA Part 1

Here are the total marks of FA for BISE Lahore and all Punjab Boards like Gujranwala Board, Multan Board, Rawalpindi Board, Sahiwal Board, DG Khan Board, Faisalabad Board, etc.
There are seven subjects in FA: four are compulsory subjects and three are elective subjects. 

The students have to study the same subjects in FA part 1 and part 2. Both parts carry equal marks which are 600.

1. English (Compulsory) = 100 Marks

2. Urdu (Compulsory) = 100 Marks

3. Islamic Education (Compulsory) = 50 marks

4. Tarjama tul Quran Majeed = 50 marks

5. Elective subject 1 = 100 marks

6. Elective subject 2 = 100 marks

7. Elective Subject 3 = 100 marks

Now if you see, all these 7 subjects make a total of 600 marks which are the total marks in FA part 1. 

The elective subjects are the subjects in which a student chooses himself or herself from the given list of subjects for FA. 

You can choose three subjects from a variety of subjects. It can be Punjabi, Sociology, Education, etc.

Total marks of F.Sc Part 1

In F.Sc, you choose to study either Mathematics or Biology along with other six subjects for FSc including Urdu, English, Islamic Education, Tarjama tul Quran, Chemistry and Physics. 

So, if you take biology, your F.Sc is said to be pre-medical and if you take mathematics, your F.Sc is said to be Pre-engineering. In both cases, you study 7 subjects together in part 1 of 1st year.

1. English (Compulsory) = 100 Marks

2. Urdu (Compulsory) = 100 Marks

3. Islamic Education (Compulsory) = 50 marks

4. Tarjama tul Quran Majeed = 50 marks

5. Mathematics = 100 marks 

OR Biology = 85 Marks

6. Physics = 85 marks

7. Chemistry = 85 marks

The total marks are 570. So, the total marks of 1st year pre engineering group are 570. The total marks for F.Sc pre medical group are 555.

Total Marks of ICS part 1

In ICS, you study 7 subjects in part 1. The three compulsory subjects are the same as in simple fa and F.Sc. 

The other three include Computer Science, Mathematics, Economics OR Physics OR Statistics.

Here are the subject-wise marks of ICS part 1

1. English (Compulsory) = 100 Marks

2. Urdu (Compulsory) = 100 Marks

3. Islamic Education (Compulsory) = 50 marks

6. Physics OR Statistics= 85 marks

7. Computer Science = 75 marks

So the total marks for ICS part 1 are 560. The same subjects are studied in ICS part 2.

Total Marks in I Com part 1

Here are the total marks of I Com part 1. The same are the marks for I.Com part 2. 

Now If you are looking for How many marks in I com part 1, I have given here the subject-wise marks of I Com part1.

1. English (Compulsory) = 100 Marks

2. Urdu (Compulsory) = 100 Marks

3. Islamic Education (Compulsory) = 50 marks

In this way, the 8 subjects combine to make a total of 500 marks. You can see that every combination of Intermediate has 500 total marks. 

This is why Boards set it easy to compare the marks and grades of the students of different fields doing the same level -intermediate- and there is no hitch in calculating the worth of any student.

Total Marks in Intermediate part 1 in Pakistan

Here is the scheme of total marks for Intermediate part 1 in Pakistan for examination 2024.

1. FA = 600 marks

2. FSc pre engineering = 570 marks

3. F.Sc pre medical = 555 total marks

4. ICS = 560

5. I.Com = 500

In 1st year, the total marks are fewer than what they are in 2nd year. So, the students usually get more marks in part 2.

3. Applicants are required to apply online for NUMS-MDCAT & Aptitude Test at www.numspak.edu.pk once the registration opens

4. The institute plans to make the exam competitive, thereby making 'high score' the criterion for enrollment

5. Applicants are also recommended to gather their previous academic certificates before applying

6. Students must pass the entry test conducted by the university for the relevant program admission. For example NUMS-MDCAT test for MBBS and BDS courses etc.

NUMS Admission Process

First, students are required to choose from the above-listed degree programs before applying. In this regard, we recommend every student to assess each program well and see if it matches his interest and qualification.

The admission procedure is given below:

1. 1st of all, the students visit the website of NUMS (www.numspak.edu.pk) and register themselves for the entry test. It is solely held by NUMS for all medical admissions. It is also called MDCAT. But it is not the same is National MDCAT test. It is made and taken by NUMS itself.

2. The students take the entry test on the given dates and centers.

3. The University announces the Entry test results. The students having 55% marks pass the test.

4. The students who pass the entry test submit their documents for admission to the University Campus. Students can also apply online for admission.

5. The university evaluates students' applications and publishes merit lists for the admission to various programs.

The standard fee structure for MBBS and BDS programs is given below. This fee implies the tuition fee; additional charges are expected to be paid. 

The fee structure for other degree programs varies and not a matter of discussion here. Every year, the admission phase begins in fixed months, followed by the display of merit lists in October/November, and the commencement of classes.

1. MBBS

  • Rs. 320,000 PKR annual
  • Admission usually starts in July/August
  • Classes start in December

2. BDS

  • Rs. 320,000 PKR annual
  • Admission usually starts in July/August
  • Classes start in December

3. BS Psychology

  • 90,000 tuition fee per semester
  • 26,400 admission fee
  • Online registration starts on March 15, 2026
  • The last date to apply online March 26, 2026
  • Display of merit list April 9, 2026
  • Classes start on May 3, 2026

4. BS Nursing (Generic)

  • Rs. 80,000 annual fee
  • Admission usually starts in July/August
  • Classes start in the first week of January

5. BS Microbiology

  • Rs. 250,000 per semester
  • Rs. 60.000 admission fee
  • Rs. 20,000 security fee
  • Admission starts usually in January
  • Classes start in the third week of March

Important dates for NUMS Entry Test 2026

1. Online registration for MBBS and DBS admission test starts on July 12, 2026
 
2. The last date for online registration is August 10, 2026
 
3. The last date for paying the registration fee is August 11, 2026
 
4. Entry test will be conducted on October 3, 2026 at 10 AM


Note:
Applicants shall have to pay Rs. 7500 PKR as the registration fee, which is non-refundable and non-transferable.

NUMS Online Registration Procedure for Entry test

1. Use a laptop or computer to visit www.numspak.edu.pk
 
2. Find NUMS-MDCAT & Aptitude Test on the website and click
 
3. As soon as it opens, fill the application form with your personal information
 
4. After filling in the information, save the generated challan form and print it for bank deposit
 
5. Keep your CNIC/Form-B, photograph, academic certificates scanned before applying online

Syllabus for NUMS-MDCAT & Aptitude Test

  • The question paper shall be comprised of 150 MCQs divided into 4 sections
  • The biology portion will carry 65 MCQs
  • The chemistry portion will carry 40 MCQs
  • The physics portion will carry 30 MCQs
  • English portion will carry 15 MCQs
  • The test shall be conducted in 165 minutes
  • There will be no negative marking in the entry test
  • After the entry test, a fifteen-minute aptitude test shall be conducted, with no effect on the position of a candidate.

FBISE HSSC Part 1 Syllabus

The federal board has given instructions on its website as I have described below. The syllabus for 1st year, class 11 for the federal board is given as:

Compulsory subjects

These subjects are compulsory regardless of what elective subjects you choose. These are mandatory for every student of class 11.

1. Urdu (compulsory) OR Pakistani Culture(for foreign students)
2. English ( Compulsory)
3. Translation of Holy Quran
4. Islamic Education compulsory (for Muslims) OR Religious Eduction (For non-Muslims)

Elective Subjects

The board has divided the subjects into 3 groups and the students have to choose one group from the given three groups. 

Every group has three or more subjects. So, the student will take three elective subjects.

Groups 1 (Pre-engineering group)

  • Physics
  • Chemistry
  • Mathematics

Group 2 (Pre-medical group)

  • Physics
  • Chemistry
  • Biology

Groups 3 (General Science/Computer Science)

ANY THREE subjects from the following:
  • Physics
  • Mathematics
  • Economics
  • Computer Science and Entrepreneurship
  • Statistics

Groups 4 (Technical/Inter-Tech Group)

The student will choose ANY THREE subjects from the following list.

Time table is very important for FSC students. They have to do a lot of hard work to get good marks in Fsc. But all the secrets of getting good marks to lie in preparing with planning. A timetable is a tool for effective planning of your exams preparation.

I cannot say how many students follow a timetable for their daily study routine and how many do not follow it at all. Anyhow, the students must have a time table to follow to give regular and equitable time to all subjects.

A time table carries great importance in life. For a student, a timetable is just like a teacher who tells him/her what to study and when to study and for how long to study. 

If a student follows a timetable, he/she actually follows a track that will lead him/her towards success. Without a time table, it would be difficult to manage your study time.

The things to do before making a timetable

1. Calculate your total study time

The first thing you will do is to find how much time you have to give to your studies at home. Of course you will have some other things to do like playing, doing domestic chores, having guests, doing shopping etc. 

You may also give some time to learning a vocational skill or doing a part-time job. But you must allocate a portion of your daily time to your studies.

2. Make a priority-wise list of the subjects

It means to sort out all your subjects according to difficulty or priority. This is the main thing in your timetable. For example,if you want to give the most time to Physics, keep this subject on the top, then the subjects to which you will give less time than physics and so on.


You can also give more time to the subjects you find difficult. For example, if you find the Physics toughest subject, you will surely give more time to it. So you will keep it on top of the list.

3. Find the best time to study

If you make a timetable for FSC, you must keep the timings that best suit you. Usually, these are the times when you have no other work. You must be usually free at this timing. For example, you can set the timings early in the morning or after the evening.

4. Make the timetable

MBBS is the base for many specialty courses. A student of MBBS becomes an expert surgeon and doctor. He/she may choose any medical field as a doctor. 

BDS stands for Bachelor of Dental Surgery. It is a highly demanding field in PAKISTAN. There are a few dentists in every city. There is a need and space for new dentists in Pakistan.

So, they have limited subject selection choices as compared to Arts students. Arts students can even go into ICS as well.

What can you do after Simple FA in Pakistan?

Simple FA means Faculty of Arts. The students in this course take arts or humanities subjects. They do not study science or commerce subjects. 

Why Simple FA?

Simple fa means doing your intermediate with arts subjects or humanities subjects. It means you do not take any science subjects. The students usually do Fsc after matric. But that is not a wise decision in all cases. 

Some factors either push you or attract you towards simple FA. So, FSC is not the destination. Simple F.A can give you more advantages in life in some cases. I have written complete details on why FA is better than FSc and in what conditions.

What are the options after FA?

There are many indeed. That all depends upon what you want to become. You can take any subject and choose any field other than medical and engineering. 

You should study specific subjects in FA in order to go further in those subjects. I have published a post on which subjects combinations has good scope so that you can choose one from that list.


So, there are hundreds of other fields but you have to see your own taste and interests. I will guide you through the post and you will have come to a final decision after reading this post.

What can I do after simple FA?

Below are various questions frequently asked by the students on Google search. The data shows that the majority of the students want to go into professional courses and professional-level higher studies. Here are the various options:

1. You can do ADA (BA)

Associate degree in Arts is a graduate-level program of 2 years duration. It was previously called BA (bachelor of arts). 

The University of Punjab has abolished this course from 2019 and named it as ADA (Associate Degree in Arts). 

The course contents, outline, paper pattern and duration, and exams system is the same as BA but only the name has been changed.

Doing BA, NOW ADA, after matric is common practice in Pakistan. The students want to increase their educational lelvel after FA. ADA is simply a graduate degree and you can choose any 2 electives and one optional subject from a variety of subjects. 

You should choose the subjects which you want to study for the masters level. 

You can choose Arabic, Kashmiriyat, or Persian as one elective subject to secure your 1st division as these subjects will give more marks than any other subject.

2. You can do BEd (Hons)

BEd (Hons) is a 4-year professional course for students who want to become teachers. The University of Education Lahore offers this program on its own campus and through other affiliated colleges. The course has a semester system and it covers eight semesters. 

The eligibility criteria are FA or FSc or ICS or equivalent certificate. So, this is simply a professional course for the students to produce them as highly competent teachers. 

The minimum 2nd division is required in FA. You can learn more details about this course at the University of Education B.Ed (Hons) program page.

The course is equal to B.A+B.Ed combined. It means that your formal qualification also reaches to graduation along with profession qualification of B.Ed. You can do a master in any subject after this course.

3. You can do LLB after FA

LLB or Bachelor of Law is a professional course to become a practicing lawyer. The students who want to become lawyers or judges take this course. After University terminates 3 years LLB program in 2017, this course has become popular.

This is a five years program with an annual system. The University of the Punjab offers this course through various affiliated colleges. 

The eligibility criteria are FA or FSC or ICS or ICom or an equivalent degree with at least 55% marks. 

An entry test named LAT is conducted before admission and the student has to pass that test to be eligible for admission. Read more details of this course on University's page.

4. Can I do B.Com after simple FA?

Yes, you can. B.Com (bachelor of commerce) is a degree-level professional program. It was not allowed earlier but now it is allowed to give arts students an opportunity to become professional bankers. 

B.Com can be done through any regular or private college. The students who want to join the banking sector usually do i.com instead of FA. 

They study particular banking-related subjects at I.Com level. D.Com is also a diploma the students can do after matric instead of ICom.

5. Can I do BBA after simple FA?

Yes, you can. BBA (bachelor of business administration) is similar to bcom but it has a more business-oriented and administrative nature. 

In B.com you study statistics, economics, accounting etc, but in BBA you study business administration, business management, finance management, etc. 

So, BBA is very popular and has a wider scope in Pakistan. After BBA you can do MBA in a particular field of your choice.

6. Can I do BS in Psychology after fa?

Yes, you can. For BS psychology course, you need to get into the merit list of the college or university. 

You must get more than 80 % marks in FA, and having studied psychology at FA level is a bonus point. There is also good scope of psychology in Pakistan.

You must get good marks in fa for being able to get admission in BS in psychology. You can do it as a regular university student. This is a four-year course with a semester system.

7. Can I do software Engineering after simple fa?

Yes, you can but if you have studied computer science at inter level. You must study computer science in fa to go into computer science engineering field. Otherwise, you cannot get admission in this course.

8. Do B.Sc with general science

With BSc with general science, you can go to some specific field but cannot go into MBBS or related medical fields. You can see other options than MBBS but you can go into mass media, journalism, electronics or advertising. You can go to geography, geology, space science, etc.

9. Do a diploma course after simple fa?

There are many diploma courses after fa. FA students can also take matric level diploma courses because of the scope of those diploma courses.

10. Find a Job

Yes, there are some jobs based on fa. The qualification required for these jobs is FA with some particular skills like typing speed, computer knowledge, driving etc.

You can get these skills and you can get a decent job after FA.

You can even become a 17-grade civil servant with simple FA. All you need to do is do your BA (ADA) after FA. 

Take sociology, Civics and Islamic study electives in BA. After BA, prepare for PPSC or FPSC exams. 

Read some good general knowledge books for competitive exams and keep yourself updated with current affairs and international affairs. 

Apply for all jobs through PPSC and FPSC and take all tests.

I have previously met many students who did F.Sc in poor marks. Earlier they had poor marks in Martic. Many students come to me to ask what to do after matric. 

I advise them according to their marks and interests. I do not, like everyone, force them to go for F.Sc.

There are some conditions under which F.A is better than F.Sc.


The students who have fears in doing F.Sc often go for simple F.A. Many students choose the subjects on the choice of their parents. This practice is not good. The students should choose the subjects he/she has interest in.

F.Sc Vs F.A1st of all let me tell you what is the difference between simple FA and FSc.

What is FSc degree in Pakistan?


F.Sc stands for the Faculty of Science. In this course, the students study science subjects like Physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics etc. 

You have the option to choose either math or biology in F.Sc. F.Sc with maths is called pre-engineering and F.Sc with biology is called Pre-biology. The main point is that F.Sc is purely a science-based course.

What is FA degree in Pakistan?


F.A stands for Faculty of Arts. In this course, students study arts subjects of their own choice. They choose the subjects from a list of arts subjects for FA students. The students study arts subjects and hence they go in for arts fields. They cannot become doctors or engineers.


When to do simple FA?


You should not take F.Sc and should take FA instead if you meet the following conditions.

1. You got less than 800 marks in Martic

2. You have less interest in Science subjects

3. You cannot afford F.Sc (attending private colleges, paying high fees for academies)

4. You have an interest in any arts subject like education, sociology, civics etc

5. You are actually a genius but science is not your taste


If you meet any above-mentioned criteria, you should do simple F.A. You can also do FA and BA even you do not meet the above criteria but want to become something in the future.

1. You want to become a lawyer

If you want to become a lawyer, you don't need to study science subjects. Just pick up civics in FA and get good marks. Then get admission in LLB. That's all.

2. You want to become a Journalist

If you want to become a journalist, you don't need to study F.Sc. Science will do nothing to you. study journalism in FA and get admission in any university in Mass communication.

3. You want to become a teacher or professor

If you want to become a teacher or a professor, just choose any specific subject in FA and do your MA, Mphil and even Phd in that subject. You will become a professor.
 
4. You want to become a psychologist

If you want to become a psychologist, you can choose psychology in simple FA and do your master's in it. You will become a psychologist without studying science.

Listen carefully! all the top students will go for science. They will do F.Sc after matric with science. As 70 % of the students take F.Sc, only 30% go for simple F.A. So the competition for jobs for science students is very high as compared to art jobs. 

So if you are a genius, you can go in simple FA and get high marks. You can even top the board with arts subjects if you have 1000 marks in Matric. so, marks count everywhere. 

With high marks in F.A, B.A and M.A, you can top any merit list that is solely for arts students.

If you have an excellent mind and you choose simple FA you can be very successful because the students who usually do simple FA are or moderate levels. They choose simple F.A because they cannot perform well in F.Sc. So, they are generally dull-minded, incompetent and low achievers. 

They have no abilities to compete with you. You will surely get far more high marks then they get. In the future, the same students are your job competitors. So, they will not beat you.

I.Com refers to Intermediate in Commerce. It means you are going to study the basis for your commerce field. The students will have to study the following subjects in I.Com:

What is BA in Pakistan?

BA refers to the first degree-level course in Pakistan. BA stands for Batchelor of Arts. Now it has been changed to Associate Degree in Arts (ADA). 

So, the new name for BA is ADA. In Pakistan, BA can be done after passing higher secondary school certificate. 

Many Public Universities in Pakistan offer BA or ADA programs. It is 2 years course after which students can be admitted in a master's level program.

The subjects are grouped in the following categories:
  1. Compulsory Subjects
  2. Elective Subjects
  3. Optional Subjects

How will you choose subjects in BA?

You will have to study all the compulsory subjects in BA. You will have to choose 2 elective subjects and one optional subject. 

Both elective subjects will have two parts each. 1 part will be taken in BA part 1 and the other part will be taken in the BA part 2. 

There is no optional subjects in BA part 1. BA part 2 has one optional subject.

Note: as you have to choose the subjects when you send admission for 3rd year (BA part 1), the same two elective subjects will be taken in 4th year (BA part 2). 

You can not change elective subjects in Part 2.

For example, if you take Sociology and Arabic as elective subjects in BA part 1 and take exams for 100 marks each, Then you have to take the same two subjects, i.e. sociology and Arabic in BA part 2 for 100 marks each paper.

Note:  Optional subjects are taken in BA part 2 only. This is 100 marks subjects.

Important Note: You cannot take the same subjects as elective and optional. 

You can take only take an optional subject which is not selected as an elective subject.

Rules and Regulations

  • No student can take two languages as elective subjects
  • Space science can be taken as elective subject only with Maths or Geography
  • Psychology and applied psychology are considered the same an cannot be taken together as elective subjects
  • A student failing in Islamic Education (compulsory) and Pak Study (Compulsory) will be considered a complete fail and he/she will have to take the whole exam again.
  • A candidate who wants to take admission in MSc. Math will have to study general math and B-course of math or both A and B courses of maths as elective subjects.

The best subjects in BA to get good marks are as follows:

I have given this list only to get high marks in BA. But if you have a specific career orientation, you can choose those subjects. But if you only pass the BA with high marks and have no specific direction for further studies, or you want to do a job after BA, then you should choose from these subjects.

Here is recommended subjects combination to get high marks in BA:
  • Arabic, Sociology (elective)
  • Persian (optional)

  • Kashmiryat, Arabic (Elective)

  • Sociology, Persian (Elective)

Similarly, you can make your own combination from the given subjects.

Why am I suggesting these subjects?

Believe me, Arabic can give you 180+ marks as an elective subject. Similarly, Persian can give you 90+ marks as an optional subject. 

Arabic gives you high marks because the paper is just like an objective type. There are "True-False" questions too. And everything comes from the textbook exercise. That is very easy to remember.

Persian can give you high marks in BA. This is because there are only 4 questions in Persian paper. there is 40% choice. You have only to learn the translation of Hikayat and the translation of the poetry section. 

You have a choice to either write a note on the Life of Allam Iqbal or Sheikh Saadi. Or you have a choice to write a note of Gulistan of Saadi or Payam-e-Mashriq of Allama Iqbal. 

Sociology is a very easy subject and gives you high marks too. Punjabi is easy for those who are Punjabis. Islamic Studies is easy as much content of Islamic education (Compulsory) and Islamic Studies (elective) is similar.

Now we will discuss the subjects that have high scope regardless of the marks they will give you. The students who are more concerned with their future should continue with this part of the post. 

The following subjects of BA have a good scope in 2024

1. Sociology/Social Work/Women Studies

Sociology, social work, and women studies are almost the same things. They have similar scope on social fields. You can do M.Sc in any of these subjects if you take one of these in BA.

2. Journalism

Journalism is also an emerging field in Pakistan. Many journalists are taking hundred-thousands of salaries from TV channels. Many anchors have well-groomed lifestyles. 

Journalism degree holders can get an easy chance to enter a TV channel as a news reporter. Then you have opportunities to grow and build a career as a journalist and anchor. 

Media companies, advertisement companies, newspapers, magazines, and other similar companies are looking for new writers and reporters.

3. Computer Studies

When you take computer studies in BA, you have options to do M.Sc in Computer science or MSc IT. You can also go for many related courses like web designing, software, and app development, hardware expert, etc. You can get a govt and private easily in the technology and telecom sector. 

Computer science is the best subject for those who have a craze for technology. So, the telecom sector is already being revamped in Pakistan during Imran Khan's era. You will see thousands of new IT jobs every month. So, this subject has a good scope in Pakistan.

4. Health and Physical Education


Health and physical education have a good scope in all govt and private institutions. The students with a master's degree in health and physical education are working in schools are health instructors, Teachers, lecturers, physiotherapists, coaches, trainers, instructor etc. 

Our country has already a shortage of physical health instructors or coaches. 

Hundreds of posts for teachers and lecturers of these subjects are lying vacant in colleges and schools and even in Universities. 

You have a good reason to choose this subject in BA. 

5. English Literature

English is an international language. A person having good communication skills in English is needed in every organization. 

English literature at BA level will give you a chance to do M.A in English Literature and even a higher degree. 

English literature will give you exposure to the English language, context, social values, and much more. 

Ultimately, you can write your own books, become a lecturer, can do well in CSS and PMS exams. You can easily attempt any paper that is in English.

The best use of this degree is CSS, PMS, PPSC, and other competitive exams and the job of lecturer or professor. 

You can open your own academy or college or you can easily get 50-60 thousand from any private college in just 2 to 3 hours daily.

6. Political Science/Civics

Political science and civics are both social sciences. You can take any one of these two or both if you plan to do LLB or LLM. 

Although now the LLB course is offered after passing HSSC in Pakistan.

7. Education

This subject is especially best for girls. The ultimate of these subjects in a Ph.D. in Education and educational policy. 

Education is not limited to teaching alone. There are many intermediary disciplines like education policy, educational research, planning, training, management, supervision, educational leadership, curriculum development, etc. 

 You can easily get a govt job on 17 scales in this subject.

You can do B.Ed after studying education as an elective subject in BA. B. Ed will enable you to get a govt job in Education and or a good teaching job in a good private school.

8. Applied Psychology

Today is the age of fast and hard lifestyle. People are using machines everywhere. Machines have affected human lives. 

Technology has changed the social life of people. Communities are reshaped, relations are reshaped, and the priorities and preferences of people have changed. All this has badly affected human relations.

There are tension, disturbance and other problems in family life, individual life and all areas of human life. 

Growing problems in man's life have made him mentally sick. Psychologists are the people who play their role in this situation. So, the importance and scope of applied psychology is growing day by day.

You can choose the subjects of your own choice but I have give the list of important subjects here. 

If you want to get good marks to get on merit in a University or College, then just take a single subject for which you will do master's degree and take other subjects Arabic or Persian.
