Introduction

This poem is written by an American poet Douglas Malloch. As the title refers, this poem is a piece of advice for everyone, particularly the young people.

This piece of advice is really helpful in practical life. Until now, this principle has guided all the successful people and enhanced their mental abilities which led to their success.

The poet took many natural objects as examples to promote the central idea of this poem.

Moreover, he asserted that nobody of us is created purposelessly. However, our purpose is hidden somewhere in this world.

Life is the quest of finding our purpose, excelling in it and achieving success. The poem has a pluralistic view about life because it talks about the multiplicity of possibilities in life. It contains twenty-eight verses.

Summary of the Poem

The poem begins by indirectly referring to the meaning of life. Meaning of life is the purpose to shape ourselves and to live life.

In this respect, the poet puts some of the possibilities before the reader. He says that if your circumstances are not favorable for becoming a pine on the top of the hell, it is not the end of life. You still have the option of becoming a little scrub in the valley.

The poet here makes the actual point of the poem: be the best little scrub. He is implying that it does not matter what you become, what matters is how best you have shaped yourself.

By talking using the examples of 'pine' and 'scrub', the poet has said something more: the value of your existence is not measured by your size but by your excellence.

Again, the poet suggests the same point in the way that if you cannot be a tree (which is usually tall), be a bit of the grass. Tree and grass are largely different in sizes. But the poet is again talking about becoming excellent whether in the form of a tree or a bit of the grass.

Then the poet talks of the two fishes: muskie and bass. He says that if you cannot become a muskie, be a bass but you should be the liveliest bass in the lake.

The poet says that all of us cannot be the captains; some have to be the crew. Here he is saying that we must do the tasks that are suitable for us. He repeats the point by giving examples of train and train and sun and star. In the end, he says,
"It isn't by size that you win or you fail."

Summary of poem "Try Again" by W.E Hickson

Hickson, the poet, has a great message for us in the poem. He says that trying is doing. The path of life is never as simple as we think, and success waits only for those who do not lose heart despite all hardships in the way.

The poet tells us that persistence brings about miracles. Sometimes we may fail in our efforts, but our courage should not be weakened because success waits for us. Our first few efforts may not bear fruit. It is no disgrace to try again and again until we achieve our goal.

Each way of life has some lessons for us, whether it is a lesson of success or a lesson of defeat. We should keep on learning from our failures.

Sometimes our goal is very difficult to achieve, but the virtue of life never goes unrewarded. It is the story of all successful men that whoever kept on trying got his goal at last. So, patience and hope are the golden principles of our life.

Ozymandias poem summary pdf

February 05, 2025
This is the summary and theme of the poem Ozymandias written by Percy Bysshe Shelley. Shelley is known for his romantic poetry.

He is best known for his natural lyrics, originality and hatred for the oppression. This poem, Ozymandias, is one of his ironic poems. He has described how life ends in miseries.

Ozymandias Poem Theme

This is a beautiful ironic poem. The poet has described that pride or proud both had to come to an end. Nothing remains firm in this world. ups and downs of life are reality.

The proud prince, Ozymandias has to die and his statue represents that everything has to come to the ground.

The statue in the poem represents the end that every cruel and proud man has to meet. It is better to love humanity rather than to be brutal and contemptuous to others.

Ozymandias poem Summary

This is an ironic poem by Percy Bysshe Shelley. In this poem, the poet has skillfully conveyed to us that we must be prepared for death. Death is a reality and no one can escape it. And sometimes, the end of life becomes a lesson for others.

The poet tells that he met a traveler from an ancient deserted country. The traveler told the poet about two huge, bodiless legs made of sones that he had seen standing in the desert. The body of the man was lying near broken and half sunk in the sand.

His body had the signs and impression of his cruelty and pride. He must be a proud king or a lord. The impressions on his face curved the inner state of the man. One could guess that he would have been proud and merciless.

At the pedestal of the statue, between his legs, was written that he was Ozymandias, the king of the kings. He was powerful and made great achievements. But all it resulted in despair and frustration.

Nothing, but a broken statue is now lying in the desert. All his pomp and show has vanished and his name is gone from the world. This is how we come and go from the world.

The poet leaves us with deep thoughts about what is the value of our lives. We must serve humanity so that people may remember us in their prayers.

Summary of the poem when I am an old lady

January 17, 2025
This is the summary and the introduction of the poem When I am an old lady. The poem is in the syllabus of 1st year class 11, in FBISE and KPK boards in Pakistan. But this is also present in books from other countries in different grades.

When I am an Old lady Poem

When I am an old lady poem

This is one of the famous poems written by Joanne Bailey Baxter and is widely taught in schools and colleges. The poem is both humorous and instructive.

In one way, it is full of humor because the speaker, as a mother, speaks of doing acts like children in her old age; it is instructive in the sense it minutely describes the acts that kids usually do.

When I am an old lady Poem introduction

The poem explores the difficulties that parents, particularly mothers, face while raising their kids; despite these difficulties, the motherhood of every mother renders love, compassion, and care to the kids.

Moreover, the poem is quite serious, as it also talks of the dependent nature of human beings. In childhood, the parents take care of kids; in old age, kids ought to take care of their parents. Structurally, the poem is comprised of twenty-nine verses.

Summary of the poem When I Am an Old Lady

As the title of the poem says, the poetess imagines or intends to do childish acts in her old age. She says that she will live with each of her kids and bring them the same amount of joy; in the third verse of the poem, she innocently says that she will return the joy they have provided me.

She is excited to amaze her kids with the acts. Then she starts mentioning acts [the acts that her kids have done at an early age].

Usually, kids write on the walls with markers, chalk, or crayons. They also jump over the furniture. Kids also wear mischievously wear their parents' shoes. Sometimes they leave things unopened like water bottles.

She humorously says I will repeat all these things. Then she says when my kids are on phone, I will snap my fingers in sugar or bleach and will hide under the bed. By doing so, I will avoid being caught by them.

I will do mischievous acts on the dining table and make my kids angry. In the TV lounge, I will throw my socks in the air and play with channels.

At the end of the poem, she says that I will lay in bed at night and my kids will say something that parents usually say to kids: She's so sweet when she's sleeping!

The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost

Introduction of the poem

Robert Frost was an American poet. He wrote many beautiful poems. All of them deliver insightful and powerful messages for us. This poem is also a masterpiece by Robert Frost. It talks about the frequent responsibility of life: to make choices. In our lives, we make different picks regularly. Each of them determines our future. The most interesting point about choices is that we are usually given many options, but we have to take one most of the time.
You are the creator of your destiny
says Oscar Wilde. As Wilde says, our choices play an important role in shaping our upcoming life. The poet puts this very theme in the poem, thus leaving valuable lessons for life. Structurally, the poem contains four stanzas.

the road not taken poem summary

Summary of the poem The Road Not taken

The poem begins at the point when the poet faces two paths with different directions in a forest. The poet faces the dilemma because there are two paths, and he has to choose one to walk on. He stands there for a while to decide which path should he choose. At this, the poet attempts to reflect on consideration on how each route is. After considering the two ways, he decides to start walking on the course that he considers right for him.

He additionally realizes that there are not any apparent differences between the two paths. But to justify his choice he says that I choose to walk on this path because fewer people have traveled on it. However, when he proceeds, he finds that this path is also walked over by many people. He says that one that morning, I had the freedom to choose any of the ways.

He walked on one road and spared the other for the future, knowing that the path he has chosen will lead to another path. And that he will not be able to revert his decision. In the end, the poet thinks that one day he will tell others that I chose the path which was less traveled by. That was what he could do.

The way through the woods summary and critical analysis

October 19, 2023

Here is the complete and line-by-line analysis of the poem The Way through the Woods written by Rudyard Kipling. I have given all the necessary details of the poem with a complete analysis.

Critical Analysis of The way Through the woods

The way through the woods summary and analysis

Introduction to the poem

This poem was written by Rudyard Kipling. He was an English poet and wrote many poems. Like his other poems, The Way Through the Woods also carries powerful lessons for us.

The poem primarily talks about the relationship between human beings and Nature. It was Nature that first started to influence living beings on the face of Earth.

However, after humans achieved a certain level of intellect, they also started altering Nature for their own motives.

For example, the rapid deforestation rate across the globe shows how we are bringing changes in the environment for our needs.

Kipling paints the same conflict between man and nature in this poem. Through an example of a road which is vanished in the woods after people abandoned it, he shows the gradual re-growth of Nature, thereby removing all remains of the road. Structurally, the poem has two stanzas constituted by twenty-five verses.

Summary of the poem

The poet starts the poem by telling the reader that he is talking about a road. A road which was closed seventy years ago for some reason.

The harshness of weather and heaviness of rains have so far vanished all the traces of the road. And on the spot, there is no sign that once a road was there. The re-growth of Nature has covered it with coppice, heath, and anemones.

Only the keeper of the territory knows that there was a road that is no longer visible to most of the people. Moreover, he says that it is the place where otter (a mammal) is not afraid of humans because it has seen only a few of them.

If anybody visits the woods in a summer evening, he will only hear silence. A silence that can only be replaced by the galloping of a horse that walks through the misty atmosphere of the place.

Only that rider could identify the road as being covered by the greenery. In the last two verses, the poet says that it was the road that was lost in the woods. And the woods show no sign of its previous existence.

Themes in the Poem the way through the woods

1. The Power of Nature

The conflict between the power of man and the power of Nature is depicted in this poem. His confidence in himself has made man think that he can overcome Nature and reduce its power.

Kipling, however, denies this view that Nature can be defeated. Nature has supreme power. As shown in the poem, Nature takes very little time to re-grow at the places it owns.

Although man had made a road in the woods to fulfill his needs of moving across, it did not last forever. The road had to be closed seventy years ago.

Once it was abandoned by man, Nature starts gaining the territory it once had. Therefore, the triumph of Nature over man is the foremost theme in this poem.

2. Indifference of Nature

Nature is very indifferent to our desires, plans, and motives. It is to say that natural laws are not constrained by the will of man.

Nature has its own plans. And it faces no obstacle in executing all of them. The very indifference of Nature to the developments we have so far made is shown in this poem.

Hundreds of people would have labored to construct the road. Later on, they had to close it. However, Nature had nothing to do with the time invested and efforts done by those many laborers.

In its very essence, Nature is expansive. It can deepen its roots anywhere. So does happen in this poem.

3. The decay of everything

Another important theme in this poem is decay. The imagery created by Kipling in this poem tells us as to how things get to end and their remains vanish.

Nature has the power to drive anything to nothingness no matter how much time it had taken to be. Just seventy years after the road was abandoned, it started to exist no more because Nature had already covered it with grass and plants.

Not even the road itself, there is also no trace that it had once existed. Only the keeper of the area knows that there was once a road here which has now faded. In this way, the theme of decay is infused in the poem.

Lessons from the Poem the way through the woods

The poem the way through the woods has the following messages:

1. We cannot defeat Nature

Nature is unconquerable. Even our hardest efforts cannot make it kneel down before our will and plans. We cannot fully control the happenings of Nature.

It possesses the utmost power to replicate itself and show its glimpse everywhere. We are powerless to make it serve the way we want. Therefore, any attempt made by man to clutch Nature would be in vain.

2. We should not harm Nature

Another lesson which we get from this poem is that Nature should not be harmed in any way. For the fulfillment of our material needs, we often start destroying nature. For example, to expand the area for living deforestation is done which results in the lack of forests.

However, this is not even good for us. We should not sacrifice everlasting benefits for temporary gains. Therefore, harm to Nature must be avoided.

3. We should protect Nature

Instead of conflicting with it, we should strive to protect Nature, since it provides us relief through its beauty. There is an urgent need for cherishing the natural environment.

In order to not fall prey to its indifference, it is necessary to embrace Nature as it is. The only way to please it is to protect it. It is good for us and even for it.

4. We should connect emotionally to Nature

The technological developments of modern-day have emptied our hearts of the will to explore Nature. Man's emotional connection to Nature is significantly reduced by massive industrialization and mechanization of human society.

Therefore, it is needed that we should invest our emotions in getting the joy of Nature and its beauty.

Summary of the poem Trees by Joyce Kilmer

October 14, 2023

This is the short summary of the poem Trees written by Alfred Joyce Kilmer. This is the best of our effort made to make it precise and clear.

Easy wording is used in this summary. This summary is best for the students of class 6, class 7, and class 8.

Summary of the Poem Trees by Joyce Kilmer

Before we actually start the summary let us know about the poet a brief:

Summary of the poem trees by joyce Kilmer

Who is the poet of the poem Trees?

The poem "trees" were written by Joyce Kilmer. He was born in New Jersey.

He got the inspiration to write the poem trees one morning when he opened his window and was captivated by the beauty of trees.

Poetic devices in the poem

Trees personify the beauty of nature persisting that no art of mankind can even match the beauty of a tree. The author was praising God’s majesty creation.

The speaker also provides the details and importance of trees in nature. He adores the existence of trees.

Summary of the poem

The speaker of the poem presents the tree as the necessity of a peaceful, natural world. The speaker says whenever the trees need nourishment, it simply drinks from the piles of earth-sweet soil.

The author linked motherhood with the nourishment of trees. Like a mother feed his child, earth feeds its sweet to the tree when the tree is a hungry mouth.

The poet says that the tree looks at God all day and night and lifts her green leafy arms to pray. The poet is associating trees with humans and, he says the tree to be religious as we human beings.

The poet is describing the beauty of tree as tree also gives shelter to birds in hot summers and protect them from heat.

In the last, the poet calls himself stupid and fool as poems are created by humans and nature-like things trees are created by God.

He concluded by saying that humans can never match the creativity of God. Humans can never make something like trees.

In the whole poem, nature is being personified and its creator God is appreciated. Another main aspect is covered in this poem that God created beautiful trees and humans cut them down to write poems on the paper made of them.

This is the reason why he calls himself and other poets fool and said that humans can never be creative like God's creation.

Introduction to the Poem

W.H Davies was a renowned poet who wrote many poems. This poem is also written by him. The poem is actually an appreciation of the natural beauty. Particularly, it admires the beauty of kingfisher.

It seems that the beautiful appearance of the bird is a gift of Nature conferred upon it. The poet not only expresses his love for the bird but also describes minute details of the places where it lives.

The most interesting thing is that the poet converses with the bird as if it is listening to his words and replying to him. He praises it and guides it to the lovely places.

The poet also admires the life of the bird. He pours out his heartily wish of living like it. To him the life of the bird is ideal.

The poem shows the interest of the poet in natural objects. With respect to structure, it is made up of eighteen verses.

Summary of the Poem

In this poem, the poet adores the beauty of kingfisher by putting his pure emotions in words.

The poet is admiring its beauty as the bird is his beloved. He is in a mood of no hesitation. With pure emotions, the poet speaks to the bird.

He says that you are given birth by the rainbow. As the rainbow contains multiple colors, the feathers and outer body of a kingfisher also look like the pattern of the rainbow.

Here, the poet also expresses his inner sadness and dejection. He tells the kingfisher that unlike you I am destined to be at lonely places like under the shade of the weeping trees.

It is to show the contradiction between the beautiful life of the bird and the gloomy life of the poet. The poet recommends the kingfisher to go into greenery and in the company of peacocks.

He says that it should go to the gardens owned by kings. The poet sees purpose and peace in the existence of kingfisher.

In the end, the poet counts on one similarity between himself and the bird: he also likes silent, green places but to share his grief with Nature.

Summary of the poem the Ball by John Berryman

Summary of the poem The ball by John Berryman

The poem the ball has been beautifully written by John Berryman. He describes a boy who has lost his ball. He associated this poem with life and gave a lesson that is full of wisdom, that everyone must learn to bear the pain linked with loss.

John Berryman assumes a boy who is playing with his ball. The ball bounces and fell into the water. The boy became unhappy and miserable. The poet associated his loosed ball with the loss of human beings.

He said the losses may be of dear ones or some separation from the loved one. One must know how to bear such losses. Because until there is life we need to learn to bear such losses and grow with them.

In this poem, the poet personifies the young days of boys that are happy and innocent. He says people take balls from us like they take our innocence of life and may force us to grow soon. And once we lose our golden days of innocence we can’t get them back.

Despite all this, we must learn how to stand up. We need to be stronger with our life. This is how we can live and survive. We must learn and let things go.

The poet has used imagery story that how the ball personifies the spirit of boys’ childhood innocence. He explains how the ball is sinking into the dark waters of the port. As if goes further away, the boy will learn to grow up.

The poet explains the grief of losing a ball with losing some loved ones in our life. He said time passes, and we learn how to live without our losses.

So, the poet successfully interprets how we feel when we lose a loved one. But after some time, we get back to our lives and learn eventually how to live without them.

Summary

This beautiful poem is associated with a man who is traveling. A man has two ways one is an easy lowland path and, the second one is a path on the mountains.

The tone of the poem is convincing and helpful. The poem gives you the hope to keep trying. The mountain path is linked with the hardships and struggles that came into the person’s life. But in the end, he succeeds with a lot of good opportunities.

The author personifies lowlands as the easy path of life. The lowland call means a man chooses easy and simple ways in his life.

On the other hand, the author represents mountains with the harder path in life. A person can face obstacles and hardships while climbing the mountains. But when you start climbing the mountain the view and satisfaction are beyond imagination. It gives you a sense of peace.

He associated this poem with personal life as well the author said when you choose difficult things in life you get more reward and appreciation. You can only achieve better things in life if you challenge yourself.

The author says in the poem that he is going to choose a difficult path as mountains and I will never stop climbing. He says I am going to choose things that will take more struggle and effort but, in the end, the reward will be worth it.

In the end, this poem is not only about one man who has two decisions of paths. This poem is linked with the decisions of life.

If you are taking an easy way like a lowland path, then you will never improve or achieve bigger in life. If you want to become bigger and want more rewards in life, then you should choose the harder path of life.

Summary of the poem

No man is an island poem summary
In this poem, John Donne says even if a person feels lonely, he is a part of huge mankind. He says every person is an important part of this community and we should cherish them.

This is a beautiful poem by John Donne in which he is talking about humanity. This poem connected all human beings stating them as one. He says when human beings are isolated from each other do not prosper.

He says a man living alone is like an isolated island. Man is born to live and grow among others. He cannot grow alone and succeed.

Man is like a social person what happens to him affects his nearby too. If a person is angry, his bad mood affects his relationship with others.

In his poem, he says living alone is a myth. No one can survive alone. Every person needs love and affection in his life. We need others to grow and survive.

This poem has a deep message for human beings. The powerful verses of the poem tell us each person is important and connected with each other. No one is alone or isolated.

The existence of a person not affects himself only but also the people living around him. Even in the case of death, maybe a person was isolated from other mankind, but he was remembered by his loved ones in their hearts.

Overall, the poem presents the harshness and beauty of death and life. John Donne wrote this poem after his wife passed away. That is the reason why the poem starts with life and ends with death. This poem motivates every single person to go and live their life at best. Death will come at any time so, live life to the fullest.

The feed Poem Summary 1st year English

January 12, 2022

This is the summary of the poem the Feed written by Ahmed Nadeem Qasmi. Qasmi is known for his thought-provoking poetry. He is a well-known scholar, poet, and prose writter in Pakistan. He also writes some poems in English. This is one of his best English poem.

Summary of the Poem The Feed

This is a poem with deep meaning. The poet has narrated the story of a mother sparrow who has one grain to be fed to ten young baby birds. The poet says that the mother sparrow is holding a small grain of cereal in her beak. She has come to the nest to feed her ten small young ones.

The baby birds are very small and they have no feathers. When they open their beaks for food, the only beaks are visible. The mother has to feed these ten young ones with that small grain.

The mother sparrow is confused about which one she should feed first. All the young ones have joined their beaks wide open. The poet says that humans have learned to break the atom. They have prepared for their own destruction. The poet says that the real task is to break the grain.

Splitting the grain means to set life on foot. The poet calls the so-called scientific progress of no use if a small grain cannot be split. Humanity lies in dividing and sharing, not in dividing and taking.

There is a time to born and also a time to die. The time for happiness and sorrows is fixed. There is a time to sow and a time to reap.

The time keeps changing and the things and happenings also change and reverse. We all are bound to float on a ship of the time.

Time Poem Summary

In this poem, the poet has expressed and justified the occurring of everything at a specific time. The poet says that everything happens at its time. Nature has set up a circle of time as we see that the clock is round and the time passes in a circular movement.
Timing is everything. If it meant to happen, it will, at the right time, for the right season.
Similarly, things also happen in a cycle. The winter is followed by spring. The summer is followed by autumn. This cycle continues forever and the system of the universe keeps running. We see that there is a time to born and a time to die. We have time to laugh and a time to cry. A time to speak and a time to remain silent is also fixed.
Everything happens to everybody sooner or later if there is time enough - George Bernard Shaw
There is a time to plant and reap. The time to build and break down is fixed. There is also a fixed time to lose something and a time to get it back.

The poet, in fact, has tried to make us realize that we cannot change the course of Nature. We cannot get anything before time - nor we should worry about losing something if the time of loss is not yer arrived.

The Old man and the Sea Summary

The story of the novel "The Old Man and The Sea" is about an Old Man. His name was Santiago. He was a seasoned fisherman. He fished in the Gulf Stream near the coast of Cuba. He failed to catch any fish for the last eighty-four days. He was declared 'unlucky' by other fishermen of the locality. A young boy Manolin used to work with him as an apprentice. His continuous failure in catching a fish influenced the mind of the parents of Manolin. They directed their son Manolin not to go with the Old Man for fishing. The Old Man possessed a great amount of patience and great resolution. He decided to go to the sea for fishing for the eighty-fifth day. He hoped that he would definitely hunt some big fish.

The boy Manolin brought some fresh baits for the Old Man and.a few sardines for him to eat. He pushed the Old Man's boat into the water and wished him ‘good luck'. The Old Man set out on his adventure early in the morning. Before the sunrise, he had reached that part of the sea which was called `Great Well' by fishermen. The Old man had dropped four baits of different depths in the sea. The Fist bait was at the depth of fifty fathoms, the second was at the depth of seventy-five fathoms, the third at hundred fathoms and the fourth was held at one hundred and twenty-five fathoms.

When the sun rose, the Old Man saw birds, small and big hovering in the sky. The. Old Man remained in the open sea for three days and three nights continuously.

At noon on the first day, the deepest line jerked and the Old Man sensed that a big fish Marlin had been hooked. He tried to pull it, but could not do so in spite of his best efforts. He wished that the boy would have been with him to help him in pulling the fish. The Old Man had a great contest with the big fish. The pull and pressure at the line told the Old man that the fish was very big. The fish pulled the boat for three days and three nights in different directions. On the second day, the Old Man had a chance to look at the fish which jumped out of water for air. The Old Man was standing at his place in the boat and he was profusely sweating. The fish did not show any sign of nervousness. During his contest with the fish, his right hand was injured and left hand was cramped. He felt lonely. He pledged to say prayers beginning with the Word to Mary and the Christ if he succeeded in killing the fish.

On the third day, at the time of sun break, the big fish seemed to be tired. The fish began to make circles. Sometimes, the big fish came close to the boat and at the moment, it disappeared into the sea. The Old Man continued. to draw the marlin close to himself till its mouth touched the planks of the boat. He collected all his strength and he drove the harpoon on the shoulder of the fish. The blood flowed from his heart and it reddened the seawater. The Old Man estimated that the fish might be weighing more than one thousand five hundred pounds. It was with great difficulty and much labour that he tied the fish with his boat. He set out on a journey towards his home. He sensed that the sharks would attack the big fish. He was ready to fight a battle with the sharks. After one hour, he saw a horrible shark coming towards the boat. He recognized it to be Mako. The shark attacked the tail of the big fish and ate at least forty pounds of flesh. The Old Man drove his harpoon into the brain of the Mako. The shark died at once and went into the sea. In this fight, The Old Man was deprived of his harpoon along with the rope.

The Old Man had to face the attack of two more sharks. The Old Man identified these shovel-nosed sharks as galanos. He killed these sharks with the knife and tied it to the end of the oar. In this attack, they seemed to have eaten one-fourth meat of the dead Marlin. Before sunset, two more sharks attacked the big fish. The Old Man beat their head with his club and injured them seriously. They also ate The Old Man large amount of the fish of the Marlin. At midnight, he saw the brilliant lights of Havana. He was near his destination. Then a pack of sharks attacked the fish. He took up his club and beat them mercilessly. Some of the sharks went below the boat and tore the meat of the fish. The Old Man succeeded in killing them but at that time, only the skeleton of the fish was left.

The Old Man took his boat to the foot of the rock and tied it. He was fully tired. When he came to his cottage, he took a glass of water from the pitcher and went to sheep. In the morning, the boy visited his cottage. He was greatly grieved to see the old man in such a miserable condition. He began to cry. Later on, he went to the restaurant and brought coffee for the old man. The old man woke up. He served him coffee and consoled him.
